On Pain/Tea Party

Exactly and approximately what went through my head during Saturday's 2 x 6k erg workout:

6k #1: Felt ok, but was worried about hurting too much and exploding on 2nd 6k, so I felt a bit sluggish... but not terrible.

Before 6k#2: Tom says "remember, welcome your friend Pain."

6k#2:
6000m to go - me: "Oo yay, now I get to pull hard!"

4500 to go - "Where is Pain? She is late! It's ok, she'll show up, don't force her to come too soon. If she's not here at 3000m to go, you can give her a ring."

4000 to go - I am feeling antsy and give Pain a premature call (aka: pick up the pace slightly to test it out.) Turns out, she's been at the door waiting for me to open it...

..."Oh, hello!/Ow! There you are, Pain! Um, I'm not ready for you yet, how about you wait in the living room while I finish making dinner?" (I decide to settle back into my original pace for a little longer.)

3500 to go - "Man, I feel great! Maybe once I sit down with Pain I'll break my best 6k time on this one! If not, maybe Tom will let me do a third 6k, and I'll break it then!"

3000 to go - "Ok, Pain! I'm ready for you now!"

2500 to go - "Oh my God, why is she here?! I don't want her here anymore!... No no, you have missed her, she is your old friend, just enjoy your little chat."

Remainder of piece - Something I feed Pain causes her to swell, and by the time the evening(aka:6k) is over, she has quadrupled in size, and has squished me under her mass.

(And I love it.)
